ARE WE TOO BUSY TO PARENT?

MAKING THE DECISION TO HAVE A CHILD IS MOMENTOUS -IT'S DECIDING TO FOREVER HAVE YOUR HEART WALKING OUTSIDE YOUR BODY.
Elizabeth Stone

NEVER have i heard it put this way and NEVER has something revealed to me in an instant what i`ve been going through for 31 years.
Your core goes into spasms...U can`t figure out the feeling......Their pain is your pain no matter how old they are..........why ? It's because not only is your heart walking outside your chest, it is walking unprotected outside your chest and no matter how hard u try , u cannot protect it. You can guide and teach, beg and plead, advise and suggest but u have made a person and u have to realize that they have their own mind, and they will do exactly what they want to do........U just have to make sure the upbringing is on spot as after 12 your training good or bad is embedded forever in them.
I look around at the 30 year olds and we didn`t do such a bad job...... check the 15 year olds and cry .......BUT is it their fault?
What is happening now is no parenting....Are we too busy to parent? We no longer sit at the dinner table to discuss the day,no rules, no curfew,we give 'things' instead of love.....Have u noticed that most youngsters (in Jamaica) smoke weed as if it's legal? Drive and look around u,the spliffs are hanging from their lips, they stand on the corners with it,they drive their cars with it hanging outside between their fingers....it's as if somebody legalized it and forgot to tell me.
The lack of discipline is everywhere, from rich to poor black to white. We do our own thing and wonder why our children are dysfunctional.....Children learn what they see.....watch a baby parrot what u say,u think they are not also parroting your actions.....Most of us are so quarrelsome, negativity before anything else.....That's where our youngsters learn to be angry first. A school fight nowadays ends in death,in our day it was a war of words or 'not talking'. Every thing now is hostile. Listen to the music......It makes even me edgy listening to it....And i have a choice, i was taught to appreciate all kinds of music so i try. My nineteen year old tells me that there is only one kind of music and it's dancehall.....so i say 'but honey that's not even music'.
He has this thing playing in his ears 24/7 ......Another angry young man here we come and he has me badgering him, suppose he didn`t.I only allow MY music to be played when he`s around me....what happens to the other young people who are left to their own devices?
Then there are the young people(14,15,16) who are given big bucks to go to Negril for the Independence weekend parties That's not a cheap trip, it costs mega bucks as u have to pay to stay in a hotel for a 3 day weekend and go to pay parties all 3 days.... its alcohol, alcohol and more alcohol, with that comes sex,sex and more sex........
I wonder if those parents' hearts are walking outside their chest?
