Hi Pat! Your story on your grandchild's birthday is hilarious. I can just imagine how those people reacted, and those children! It was a wonder you did not have a coup within your home with people tearing at your kitchen, throwing away all the stuff they did not understand! What are we doing to ourselves indeed! Whilst I try to practice better eating habits, and may not eat raw foods all the time, the truth is that if I had come to your party, I would have respected your way of eating, and would have eaten heartily. Most of all I would have trained my children to do the same. Anyhow the little one is gorgeous, pretty as a button, another Miss Jamaica, and yes! I will say that I also do not (never did!) allow my children to have sweets galore and eat nonsense. I was so in awe when my grandson (he is 9) came over to Barbados and we went out to eat in an Italian restaurant that has a salad bar. All he ate was the salad. It was his own choice and he put stuff in that salad that I have never seen other kids of today eat...stuff my children would eat because that is how I brought them up. So it really is not about what they want, it is really about what the parent finds it is easier to give them. And fast foods of any kind comes into that category...sweets is also fast food...ice cream like Haagen Daz is fast food (where was Peter's delicious ice cream made from whole fruits, wish I had some here!). Children grow up eating what their parents allow them to eat and once the addiction is there, it is more than difficult to get rid of it. You will also be glad to know that I now have a personal trainer at my home three times a week, I go for holistic healing every Wednesday, and I have lost some forty pounds and eating a lot better and with more care. Living what I preach has me feeling good and whilst the whole raw food bit has not taken over, and I still feel that a good balanced diet Organic preferably) is what is required to keep healthy..I admire what you eat and if I came to stay with you, would eat it heartily and enjoy every mouthful without fuss. So go girl! and yes! you have a right to make a fuss with your grandchild's diet..because you love her! This is the time to instill the good eating habits, makes life a lot easier in the end.
