I haven't blogged since November 2015 but recent developments have rested heavy on my mind so I have to release my spirit.
As most of you know I have lived with death for the past 40 years ever since my first bout with cancer when I was given two weeks to live. One never knows if this pain is the final pain, this diagnosis the final one every lump every nauseous moment makes my heart leap - is this it? And it's not that I'm not ready I've been ready from the start because I learnt early in life fear is false evidence appearing real so I push on giving it all to the Father because I've lived - I chose a path that gave me life instead of pain but how many people unknowingly choose pain and die before they actually leave this earth? How can we fight to stay alive if it's hospital stays, needles, hourly tests and retests, feeding tubes - pain, pain, pain and the relief of pain being morphine , one of the oxycodones - all are addictive and all turn us into zombies. “Nothing is really worth worrying about. Nothing is really worth getting angry or hurt or bitter about. Positively nothing is worth losing your peace of mind over
Why would I want to live like that? Isn't quality of life more important than quantity ?
And when you've worked hard all your life and never took the time to enjoy your earnings shouldn't you on your diagnosis start living instead of immediately choosing death? what's the point of dying without enjoying our money why should we leave it to other people ?
I've always believed that our health begins and ends in our minds some find it as a way to finally get attention from friends and family some choose to lean heavily on them but bottom line is who actually makes the final choice shouldn't it be you? why should your children and your husband /wife who are going to benefit from your demise call the shots?
I'm asking all of us to reflect this weekend on our final choice before we can't choose anymore.
Make sure your end is like how you have lived and surround yourself with those who know your final choices and are caring people not all children are caring - my son comes with each surgery and sleeps in the room whether in a chair or on the floor sometimes the nurses are sorry for him and offer a cot and he empties my drains no matter how yucky the job is,the other son became a raw food chef because he felt it would help me live and fixed food for me everyday, some children prefer to just pay your bills because they can't take illness and a few let's face it honestly don't care. So whatever your case right now before that diagnosis comes choose to live because for sure we are all going to die. Enjoy your life , make that trip you have always wanted to take don't sit and fret about cancer remember changing your life style immediately buys you time and lifestyle doesn't mean only food it means things like your detergent, your bathing soaps, your lotions ,shampoos - do your research learn about parabens and sulphates know what aspartame is.
Money alone doesn't help illness in fact having too much money sometimes let us make the wrong choices - when we have none we HAVE to make the simple choices because simple choices bring joy and we all need to die with our hearts and heads at peace knowing that that moment when we exit into the unknown our hearts are filled with expectation and joy not excruciating pain!

Thankful for life
One of the things I really like about the USA is Thanksgiving Day - not the sales or the gluttony but taking time out to reflect on just how much we have to give thanks for.
To all the complainers out there who live in this fabulous country , Jamaica -try giving instead of complaining - if we give love instead of hate what a country we would have - if we took the time to help instead of dragging down – wouldn’t all our people be better off?
I heard two Americans cussing Obama for not sending ground troops to fight Isis - would they want their children included in one of those troops? Isn't it great for the USA to have a President that is not an alarmist like the one before him that got rid of Saddam and caused Isis?
I give thanks everyday for Life - didn't have to be here but I am and in good shape- well loved and happy- I could run/walk this morning- I can eat I can drink no one brought a bedpan for me or came to give me a sponge bath- I have a job and staff that care for me and great friends.
When I look back at the past 37 years I say look at all I would have missed if I didn't realize early that we are all going to die but illness begins and ends in our minds so I should enjoy life .....I would have missed my real and adopted children coming into their own and being successful and teaching me so much. I would have missed my 2 gorgeous grandchildren - what a miss out that would have been!
I would have missed Jamaica taking over the track and field world - Asafa leading the way for Usain to break records and ShellyAnne showing the world what a short island girl can do.
I would have missed a highway that takes me 9 mins from Moneague to Linstead.
I would have missed my church UCT, my minister Rev Sheila McKeithen and the fabulous singers that make any Sunday morning that I am able to attend the greatest time spent listening to God’s gift of music.
I would have missed iPhone6s+ in other words I would have missed all the technology that came after I was given 2 weeks to live in 1978. I would also have missed the great friends I now have in my life like the one that loaned me a phone when mine dropped and the face broke - do we remember to give thanks for things like that?
So on this Thanksgiving Day and every day that I'm still around – for things big and small - thank you God!

Drive thrus killing more than drive bys
I'm truly shocked and devastated about the death of my friend Lorna Bess. It positively floored me and yes I knew she smoked and yes I knew she drank and yes I knew she had diabetes but being no longer able to hear her voice on the other end of my phone always asking for Sajato as we catch up with each other simply makes me want to howl and not stop howling. Her spirit was larger than life as was her love for all things and people Merritone. Couldn't understand why I couldn't hear from her, and people let me tell you all some thing this is my view and my view alone I would have preferred Lorna to die here with all of us loving her up- sometimes we just have to choose quality of life instead of quantity..I remember Cindy Breakspare saying in an interview that in her humble opinion she wished Bob had come home to Jamaica and played ball with his friends and enjoyed what was left of his life instead of being sent to Germany where he hated the cold and didn't have his combolos around him..... I truly believe that.RIP Lorna.
It makes me want to start having some prevent not repent seminars and I'm going to start having them soon as we are being bombarded from all sides. Those fires in the St. Andrew hills that been burning and leaving soot all over far and wide -just like when we had the fires at the Riverton dump - we still don't know the fall out from that yet - then there is the haze that has covered Jamaica that they say comes from the Sahara desert. Also this news just in -Curacao has a new strain of Chickv ....then the food...all of you that chew gum hope you know that it's filled with aspartame - how many of you know what that is??? It's everywhere people, every where, and the only solution is to build our immune systems. God put us in a country that turmeric and guinea hen grows wild, Moringa trees are all over Jamaica cinnamon and grapefruit not high blood pressure tablets is what keeps those of us under stress from suffering from hypertension I've seen it work so many times but no we prefer to take the tablets because the Dr. gave us. Do our men not realize what these tablets are doing to them? I was talking to a cancer patient this morning who when I suggested she use nature's chemo to relax her and make her sleep, said 'yes,I have a sour sop tree so leaves and bark no problem'. We have ganja other wise called hemp, marijuana whatever you want to call it - don't smoke it drink it, eat it, its uses are numerous we have so much and we have Dr Henry Lowe that is doing so much work on its various medicinal uses but how many of us listening to him? Instead we're into American fruit and veg that can't spoil, we buy only packaged food, we send our children to school with a hot dog, a pack of cheese trix and a box juice then we worry when they have asthma and eczema, we are killing ourselves ! Surprisingly I'm the best example of this - for some time now I decided that since I'm getting older I'm not going to die eating and drinking green so I started eating whatever I wanted and lots of meat as I'm a carnivore lover (never met a steak or pork chop I didn't love) but nowadays these animals are all grain fed - no grass fed cows seem to exist any more, so apart from sugar (I don't play with sugar) my diet had again become SAD (the Standard American Diet).... well I don't feel the same any more -that energy I had when I was green I no longer have it and as I told you I got a cold in December that lasted a month scared the hell out of me so I'm now back to my eating to live and not living to eat, I'm green again...we are all going to die but heart disease, stroke, cancer is no way to go we are not to die above ground years before we die and are placed in the ground. We need to get ourselves spiritually sound - you feel the energy around us??? Its not good - don't make sense God give us life and we can't enjoy it.
To the woman that wrote that letter about the 5k walks upsetting her as they are happening too often and hampering her church going .mam they are held all over the place and some are on Saturdays and some in the night,if you are leaving your house between 6am and 8am and it's a Sunday and you need to go to church at 7am or 7:30am - get out early if we're blocking your gate, if not look at it this way we're doing God's work - we're working on our health and helping people while doing so, so come and have your church with us,what the Bible say about church being in your heart, or where 2 or more are gathered together?

My take on things
I was trying not to say anything about the recent Diner En Blanc held in Kingston at Emancipation Park as I think enough have been said for and against, but no one has mentioned that this event caused much money to be generated for hairdressers, nail techs, boutiques, food emporiums, labourers setting up, truckers, gas stations, the park getting entrance fees - whatever we personally feel that's a fact !!!! Plus I'm all for beauty and people having a good time as life’s too short but as Colin Young said in his commentary on the affair, jumping on En Blanc is ridiculous as that's not the problem in this country - it's a symptom of a deeper problem.
We have all sat and watched successive Governments take the country down this road of economic turmoil and poverty and we have said nothing except to each other, how many of us have given ourselves up for higher office?
Our prisons are full of young men and women who traffic drugs for a better life - young women who sleep with gangsters for “pound” hair and bleaching cream.
People we get the government we deserve, we have Political parties that give a man $5000 to go to a political rally, they give them a Tshirt and a box of fried chicken instead of giving the man $5000 worth of seeds to plant. Also why not fund programmes to teach these young people how to legitimately make money from weed? All they do is rub out their palms and blow smoke when this plant can help relieve so many illnesses .
I was in Kingston for the Kingston City Run and so experienced the effects of the fire at the Riverton city dump.Tearing down the CEO of the National Solid Waste Authority doesn't help as we all know the lady is not qualified for the job but she is trying her best which we all know is not good enough but her friend needs to be taken to task for that. Too much 'fren and fren'thing going on,but we also know that she has not been provided with enough money to do what has to be done as the country has to pass IMF tests so garbage collection and dump maintenance has to be sacrificed . My problem is coming back to MoBay and hearing our own garbage dump is also on fire this tells me something is not right – it seems as if arson is really at work and could it be now that Jamaica’s economy is about to turn the corner and we can see the light at the end of the tunnel the usual saboteurs come out to play???? Cause make no joke I do see Jamaica doing well - our hotels are full whether Spanish or English - dem full.... Minister of Education Ronnie Thwaites is trying with education and people like Dr .Renee Rattray and others too numerous to mention are doing their work to raise educational standards and the improved performance of students at all levels is there as evidence that these efforts are paying off.
Many corporate entities are also stepping up to the plate with events like the immensely popular 5k and 10k walks in Kingston that collect at least $1000 from each participant resulting in them collecting sums up to $26m for hospitals and the like, also 'farm up' Jamaica showing us how to have healthy organic farms and get rid of damaging pesticides like "roundup" thanks Neil Curtis . Lots of great things are happening in the country - we have always had great doctors- I can vouch for that plus great musicians look on Chronixx he's giving 3 hour concerts chatting nuff sense with the tightest band around backing him and all ages listening. Look at our athletes look what's happening from our prep and primary schools up - the running, jumping, throwing then there is Schools Challenge quiz on TVJ - how many countries have these things ??? How many countries can you go from one parish to the other and find exotic fruits - in St. Catherine you can get your bag of jackfruit and star apple - continue to St. ann and there is your Otaheite apples then reach Trelawny and there is your guinep and there are different fruits available year round depending on the season – a blessed country. I'm not giving this up so I will scold your children when I see them going wrong- I will take my money and help young people go to school and yes I will pick up the garbage where you throw it and beg for us to start recycling.... it's all up to us people - Jamaica, land we love, needs us!
Just heard Jenifer Edwards contract has not been renewed.See folks it works if we work it, we don't blame, we demand!

Thoughts of priorities and death
So I'm driving in MoBay today and looking at the corridor from the airport to the conference centre noticing the street lights that are going up and wondering why we have our priorities so very wrong?
I see very well when driving on that highway at nights now and I'm sure everybody else does too - one woman when I voiced my thoughts said , "Pat I have night blindness and live in Ironshore and see very well driving home at night " - well suppose we took those millions that's being used to put up these lights and gave it to the hospitals instead - starting with the Cornwall Regional Hospital since it is in St.James that the street lights are being put up - isn't our health much more important than lights to look good for tourists - just asking?
Then I've also been reflecting on the Sigma run/walk That I took part in this past Sunday - didn't the organizers know that after the crowd they pulled last year, this year, they should have staggered the starts? I'm a mere walker and the runners took so long to start that when they set off the walkers my feet couldn't move it took about 5 mins for me to hit my stride. Come on Frano show them how it's done - last year I couldn't even enter the park the gate was too narrow for all the people trying to go in - this year I went straight to my car - Mr Byles start and end at The National Stadium next year please.
I got a lot of calls regarding the lady who died while participating in the Sigma run some wanted to make sure it wasn't me and was relieved to hear me answer my phone - the rest of these callers (non-exercisers) wanting to show me that the lady exercised and still died - until we know her cause of death -
I'll just say it's not quantity of life that truly matters it's quality of life I'm advocating for. She obviously lived a full and fabulous life - all her friends and family have spoken so highly of her energy so she went out doing what she loved - remember while we are in life we are in death so while we keep ourself spiritually tuned remember when you don't excercise and eat right your quality of life is not so hot - the big belly men and the ladies under-breast meat bigger than their breasts and all the complaints about acid reflux, diabetes, hypertension and on and on.....
So it's not that we are not all going to die it's just that we are able to do more and enjoy life more and look better while waiting to go:)
RIP Alicia Prince

Musings on health
My CFO calls it a curse I call it an epidemic but can someone tell me why since 1 Jan 2015, 3 people I know have been floored by high blood pressure? one hospitalized with low blood pressure one with diabetes, 4 diagnosed with cancer , 4 dead from cancer, 2 on the way out meaning the call can come anytime from cancer and one with an autoimmune disease that's giving her a rough time she can't function.
I don't know about anybody else but to have 4 people that you know die in a month is no joke normally you would have 4 people you know die in a year - young and old they are dying or very ill. I have had a cold/ virus from the 28th of Dec. This morning is the best I've felt and today is the 28th of Jan one entire month of feeling awful and my head full of mucus, this happened even after I relented and took a round of antibiotics which is a big No No for me .
How could I forget my bosom buddy had muscle inflammation around her sternum and my 33 year old nephew-in-law had heart surgery where he nearly died on the table started bleeding from his heart valve saturating his liver.
This is a scary time and please let no one tell me God is coming for his world as I firmly believe that people believe this that's why we are destroying the world, but I have news for you we are going to have to live in this world that we are destroying and many of us not going to enjoy living in it.
ChikV I've been reliably informed is killing a lot of people whose bodies have been compromised eg if you had leukemia and it was in remission it brings it back with a vengeance that usually kills . I also hear that if you had a broken leg or arm you have pain for months I hear it might last for years but it hasn't been raging that long here for us to find that out yet.
So how did ChikV come about ? How did Ebola come about ? And why are we pushing flu vaccines that they are saying this year might not work because the vaccine and the flu are two different strains?why are people with stage one cancer having chemo and radiation? Why are people with high blood pressure eating mackerel run down? Isn't this 2015 don't we know that we mustn't eat salt if we have high blood pressure? I've been hearing that from I'm a child so how can we not know the mackerel we buy is called salt mackerel for a reason and even if it tastes fresh after it is cooked it's been cured so salt is cured in it!!!!
I'm really confused don't we know that cinnamon and grapefruit lowers pressure? Can we not help ourselves more?
Those of us who try to help ourselves and not eating processed food or radiated foreign fruit we hear the local fruit and vegetables have been sprayed with 'roundup' so we have to eat things like pineapple and papaya which can be peeled and eat our local apples which I'm hoping are so high on the trees nobody sprays them. We also have to drink coconut water and then what do we do with vegetables? Same thing soak and peel....oh Lord what a life !
We are in a war only thing instead of using guns to kill us there are using other ways just as deadly!

Health is our wealth
On the morning of 23rd Dec 2014 I woke up and realized that I'm taking this being alone thing a little too far. I have a son and 2 grandchildren who love me and my son and I have been 'doing' Christmas by ourselves ever since his divorce but I felt that New York , where he lives, was going to be extra cold this year so I had decided to stay in Jamaica . Well his on and off girlfriend, whom I love dearly, had made plans to spend Christmas with him so on the spur of the moment I decided - let me see if I can get on her flight - have credit card will travel so off I went to a fabulous Christmas with both of them with me as the third wheel.....fun can't done!!!
New York city acquiesced and gave me 61 degree weather and it couldn't have been any better .
New York city acquiesced and gave me 61 degree weather and it couldn't have been any better .
Back I came the Saturday complete with a flu to end all flus could it be too much enjoyment of 61 degree weather I don't know but I brought in the New Year with a doozy of a cold. First time in years i had to succumb to antibiotics and it took so long to work too.... they finally telling us that the flu shots this year might not work as this flu is a different strain....scary scary world!
Lots of decisions this year. Lots of coming into what the Lord has saved me for all these years. They say you don't make changes if you're comfortable so this year I see uncomfortableness coming on my work scene so I will make a move.
Read recently that it was discovered last year that children in Jamaica are having more cancer than ever before especially brain cancer. Can we look seriously on what we are feeding our children for 2015? We overdose them with sugar then when we get the diagnosis we freak!!!! Also this heavy diet of processed foods is a no, no - people please ease the children out of all the unhealthy things we're giving them to eat - someone told me last week their 8 year old sister doesn't eat vegetables and this morning Neville told us on TVJ he doesn't drink water - that is so wrong and please, please, please remember foreign fruits are radiated to come in the country so soak, soak, soak - local vegetables come from farms that we don't know what herbicides and pesticides are being used so we're really between the devil and the deep blue sea but we have to realize that eating organic is still cheaper than paying J$300,000 for a round of chemo or J$1.8m for radiation.
For 2015 we don't need to be sitting on chairs because there are no beds in the hospitals because we're having strokes because of blood pressure issues -have u looked around you and seen how many men have high blood pressure and diabetes? PLEASE throw away those high blood pressure tablets and drink cinnamon tea and grapefruit juice, take vitamin C, do all the 5k walks and stop the woe is me-Remember our brain is the controlling factor.what we believe we will achieve.
We need to remember our health is our wealth ! May 2015 be our wealthiest year yet.

My Life is a Celebration
My life is a celebration so every morning as I wake I give thanks and celebrate....they say that anyone who has a roof over their head , someone to love and a job to do should be contented and I have all 3 so as Deidre Hall says - life is good .This past week was especially good - I spoke at the Women's Entrepreneurship Day (WED) workshop in Kingston
and my alma mater, St. Hugh's High school, honored me at their Banquet for being one of their success stories .
Well my talk at WED and the panel discussion went very well and I was moved by the standing ovation I received there and at the Banquet, surrounded by close friends , I realized how important it is to be recognized by your school.
I have received many an award over the years and I can easily say none has made me as emotional as the one from my High School, I only wished there had been room on the programme for me to publicly deliver my own thank you so I will use this medium to say what I would have said. My first year at school my music teacher Ms.McCormack told my mother that she would prefer to teach 5 boys than one Donna Jenkins (the names I went by then) - in those days teachers weren't big on acknowledging boredom in children - Ms.McCormack had me playing the triangle even though I was doing my 8th grade practical and 7th grade music theory and on my way to sit for my LRSM in piano so I guess my mischievousness was just me acting out . St.Hugh's was, nonetheless , a very special time in my life and among the important lessons I learnt, there are 3 that have been the hallmark of my life. Firstly it was at St.Hugh's that I discovered that I had a special talent - I walked with my scissors in my uniform pocket and young girls were willing to have me cut off their ponytails and plaits in the bathroom and Letty, the school janitor, was willing to sweep up the hair in the bathroom to allow me to be back in class when the bell rung.
Secondly, I was taught from that early age that I was a leader . The group that came over from St.Hugh's prep was called Jesus and the 12 disciples of course you must have guessed who was Jesus in that scenario - any of the disciples that got in trouble , it was I who got sent to the Principal's office . One day , one of the "disciples" , Lesley Griffith refused to wear her bloomers to PE and Ms.Ritchie , the PE teacher , sent me to the office and when I asked why was I being sent as I had on my bloomers and certainly had not told Lesley not to wear hers, Ms. Ritchie told me " because Lesley would never have decided to do this on her own " so I realized the teachers saw me as a leader, always a good thing to be in life . The third thing I learnt was about love - I am an adoption and when I found this out at 18 , I called the "disciples" one by one to tell them the news and found out that they all knew . One of them had overheard her parents talking about it from when we were in first form and had told the rest of the "disciples" warning them that I didn't know and that the Principal had said that I wasn't to be told yet because I was too highly strung and none of them told me because they didn't want to hurt me . Now if that isn't love I don't know what is - which set of 12- 18 year olds holds news like that ? Unconditional love.
Thank you St. Hugh's.
and my alma mater, St.
Repost from dec 20th 2008 Jamaican Politrix
I am completely befuddled...how come the Jamaican government has money to give to the Clinton Foundation (a President who did nothing for us ) keeping company with Kuwait, Italy, Qatar, Saudi Arabia who gave between US$10-25 million. Don`t we have enough problems ?...... Pregnant mothers sleeping 2 to a bed in our main maternity hospital FOR EXAMPLE, shouldn`t we try to rectify our own problems first before giving to people who are not needy. Or is it that we have to give for America to give us aid ? Well guess what America has no aid giving anybody since they started that war that Mr.Bush could ill afford, they NOW NEED aid.In fact they need more than aid, they need prayers........ So we not getting diddly squat from them therefore we need to keep our little two cents.
Our health care and education systems are so sub-par after we used to be at the top in those sectors in the 50`s and 60`s, even the 70`s we were holding on. Now our University is rated at the bottom of the barrel and is our medical system rated ? I don`t even know.
I notice the people who love to shout about HUMAN RIGHTS not saying anything about the 2 to a bed pregnant mother situation. Isn`t that a human right to have your baby with a little dignity ?
Jamaica has Mr. Lethargy leading us and everywhere you go the people tell you "these people don`t have a clue" the only one that seems to be on top of things is our agricultural minister Christopher Tufton....How can they be deep into corrupt activities already ? Did they come in with 'getting theirs' as their number one priority ?
I wish to remind them that PNP people voted them in so it's very easy for them to lose their position as it wasn`t too strong in the first place, in fact it can fall at any moment as we are waiting on a court decision.
WE NEED PARTIES THAT YOUNG BRIGHT PEOPLE LIKE AN OBAMA CAN COME IN AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE. The 2 parties we have now continue to play the same game of coming into politics for one reason and one reason alone - feathering their nests. They hug up the dons and then shout about crime.....crime will never stop once the politicians are granting favours to criminals.
Look at what is happening now where people who worked hard and had success at the different government agencies are being turned out to pasture because they are not in the JLP. That has to stop...If PNP comes in now the JLP ones will be sent packing..... What happened to keeping people on based on merit and performance ?
Truth be told if someone sees an Obama-like Jamaican willing and able to serve in the near future please tell me because look as I might in the 2 parties only Lisa Hanna is playing a half decent game, looks good and talks good, lets see if she does good, she is new we have to wait.

Happy!!!
Yes I made it ! One more birthday , one more year.... Thank you father.
Earlier this year when I heard my alma mater, St Hugh's High school was honoring me that was my focus - to make it till the 22nd of Nov and with God's grace I think I will . Nothing like your school thinking you're a success and honouring you for it - I certainly don't want to miss it.
This birthday apart from saying thank you to the One, it was spent doing just what I wanted to do ending with me watching Scandal ....no time for the massage - that will come today or maybe tomorrow.
So likkle nooky , likkle lunch , likkle flowers , likkle chocolate , likkle movies, likkle tuitti fruiti then home to watch Scandal , LOTS of love .....perfect day.
Thank you all for remembering me with such kindness - one of the birthday greetings that bowled me over was Carlene Gardner saying the world is a better place because I'm in it - OMG that made my day.
So while I was enjoying my day doing likkle things and reading all my good wishes it dawned on me that I'm happy - I heard a friend say that last month at her birthday party..... she said Brene Brown of " Super Soul Sunday" fame said a lot of us feel guilty in saying we are happy and she realized she is happy, well I don't feel guilty .....I'm happy !!!
If you wake in the mornings beside the person you love and no one brings a bedpan or comes to brush your teeth life is good .
We get so obsessed with the wrong things not realizing we call all we don't want to us .We say God please help me I'm broke instead of saying thank you God for all my riches -if you send broke out to the universe, not riches, then we manifest what we put out .
It's no wonder our island is consumed with Chickv as that's the focus of almost the entire population. Someone said to me if they could just go on Facebook and not see a word about it they would be relieved. But people - whatever we focus on or put our attention on grows ( I sound like my Minister
Rev.Sheila).
Let's try and put our health and our happiness out to the universe in a positive light.Take a page out of Pharrell's book - he was always big but
after Happy he's ginormous!!!!
Be a room without a roof .....because we're happy!!!

Part 2 Oprah #thelifeyouwantMIA
To all of you who went with me in spirit here are some more highlights to
give you a taste of what you missed from not actually being there – first each
participant was provided with a wrist band which changed colour according to
what was happening on stage it was called our energy band.
Friday night was Ms O alone giving you her history from Mississipi to present reminding me that my favourite quote from her is : “I’m the master of my fate, I'm the captain of my soul ".I must say she looks exactly like she does on TV and she has obviously lost weight being on this 'life you want' tour.
Saturday started with meditation led by Deepak as only he can do it "the self of you is the self of the universe .....meditation is developing a spiritual muscle “ - we all developed some spiritual muscle as you could drop a pin in the arena during meditation and it would have sounded like a bomb.
Then we had Elizabeth Gilbert who told us to grab life with both hands... stop settling .... even if you feel you are boxed in and can't free yourself – start now to plan and save – she gave us a story of a mother of 5 whose husband left her with the children but she had a dream of touring the world - well she saved a dollar a day for over 20 years and when her last child graduated from school she booked her cruise ... follow your dreams.
Next came Rob Bell a minister from Michigan he was new to me but he won't be new anymore - he spoke of validation we all want to be validated - as Oprah says " everyone of us is looking for the same thing, we want to know we matter ". Minister Bell told us to look out for ourselves because we do everything for everyone else and leave ourselves out - ain’t that the truth!
We next learnt our soul is in a cycle as out came an exercise instructor for a spinning gym called Soul Cycle which developed out of 2 women following their dreams and opening a high energy cycle club where they use bright yellow cycles - of course we were on our feet jumping to the music - DJ KISS was our DJ for the 2 days with some serious dance music !!!!
Iyanla was the final presenter and although a little loud for me, her comedic touch balances that out. She told us about her life and how life has been her friend no matter how bad a week she has and the past two had been extremely rough as her assistant had a stroke - but through all her challenges life lifts her up. She apologized for not wearing the proper undergarments as she had forgotten them as she arrived in a rush Saturday morning and I thought to myself it takes a woman very comfortable in her skin to come on stage in front of thousands without a bra and huge girls one much bigger than the other - shows she has the ego thing under control.
Amy Purdy was there to present a Toyota award - the Miami 'standing ovation' which was given to a woman who took her and her husband’s life savings and bought a bus which they equipped with computers and drove into the ghettos to give underprivileged children a chance because she didn't want to retire to a rocking chair on her porch.....well Toyota gave her $25,000 and Ms O matched it of course.
We ended knowing “the only courage you ever need is the courage to live the life of your dreams” – Oprah. A wonderful thing happened while I was sitting in the airport waiting on my flight home, I met two women and they both asked "when are you going to do something like this in Jamaica ?" My answer - soon - we will not have Oprah but great speakers none the less so stay tuned.

Oprah #thelifeyouwantMIA
I attended the Miami leg of Oprah's Life You Want tour and I must say I'm not leaving as I came . If we doubt that we all are energy and spirits having a human experience, these events really put it in perspective. The one other time that I felt energy pulsating in a room like this was at Panorama Of Truth (POT) my Church's yearly conference. Group of like minds vibrating ....nothing like it .
So what this 2 days brought home to me is how easily we judge and how we keep going into others territory where we have no business . I know I judge and as someone who has been working on myself for years, I'm now going to put more work into this aspect of my life - being conscious of it is half the battle won .The issue of not going into other people's territory is easier for me to accept as I learnt this as a child. I used to wonder why my nanny prayed so hard and to me her life was the same I asked my mother and she explained to me beseeching prayers and the fact that God has given us everything we need and all we have to do is use it and not be begging him to do it for us . It explained to me later why grandmothers with their 'bad man' grandsons although on their knees praying morning, noon and night couldn't evoke change in their grandchildren if these men didn't want it to be so. As a Truth student, Rev. Sheila McKeithen further enlightened me as to why we must stay in our own territory and not be in other peoples business as it's your issue not mine and me taking it on can't help - we think because that person is our child or spouse it's fine - it's not - their issues are not our business and we can't work on it for them. Each of us have to fight our own battles and I can't fight yours and you can't fight mine - I can support you in your fight, be there for you but that's all I can do.
There were two speakers on the tour that stood out for me and that was Rob Bell and Iyanla Vanzant. Elizabeth Gilbert was also good and showed up this issue that I have which is why I have to work on judgment - I have never been able to separate the message from the messenger . I used to have a problem getting TD Jakes' messages because he is on the heavy side and had on all these ill lifting suits. Look on TD Jakes today flying in his private jet looking good in designer suits and taking his message to people like me who need it . JUDGE not! Easier said than done though - I had difficulty hearing Elizabeth Gilbert's message as I had a hard time getting past the thought that she needed a stylist from head to toe so I listened but I didn't hear - I was too busy putting on a fabulous pair of black stilettos on her and taking off that thing around her neck and doing her hair where the curling iron marks weren't even brushed out - oh I could have given her a fabulous hair cut I guess it's the hairdresser in me but who am I to be judging Elizabeth Gilbert .....really ? Seriously??
Oprah was Oprah - comfortable in that 3 billion dollars worth of skin - as she likes to say ' I have a big life' always saying the right thing, but on Friday night i discovered just how much I knew about her life as I've followed her over the years.
Then for brawta there was my favourite girl from DWTS Amy Purdy cute as a button with the artificial legs in the black pumps Elizabeth Gilbert needed ......there I go again .... how easy it is for us to slip and right now as you are reading this I know you are judging me but guess what? Whatever you think of me is none of my business so on we all go to create the life we want.
Thank you Father for giving me health and strength to attend this - thanks to the friend who suggested it and the friend who took me and paid for it and the friend who gave us his fabulous Miami Beach apt to stay. If you can see it .....you can believe it ......you can manifest it .....

Ebola & Chikv hysteria
Yesterday 16/10/2014 was a day directly out of hell for me.
I learnt so much about the human psyche and the fact that most of us are followers so can be whipped into anything - no wonder Hitler succeeded. All it took was a well known announcer on a popular local radio station and a few rumour mongrels posing as journalists and it was all over…. one of the people that I work with told me that her 10 year old child called crying "mommy Ebola is here in Jamaica and I don't want you to die" - now who scared this child out of his wits?.... I have never seen irresponsibility taken to this level before. Now if Ebola comes to Jamaica you mean we are all going to panic and turn into fools ??? You mean we are that scared to die? Aren't we the same set of people who drive at 140mph in an 80mph zone ? Aren't we the same people that don't use condoms because we don't like how they feel although we know about HIV/Aids??? Aren't we the same people that daily eat processed foods , sugar laden drinks, excess alcohol and smoke 2 packs a day ??? I'm just amazed we are all happy to call down Chikv on us with all the dumping of plastic waste in gullies and all over our communities to create breeding sites for mosquitoes but we scared of Ebola ??? People recover from Ebola you know, it doesn't kill everybody that gets it and guess what we don't all have to get it. The time we take panicking we would build our immune system and clean up the mosquito breeding sites . I've heard enough crap today to last me a life time .....How it's the plane that went down in the sea near Portland that cause Chikv - I watch sensible people write crap about they think that Chikv is not caused by mosquitoes it’s air borne blah blah blah ....and what causes Ebola? Oh I forget that the Lord is coming for his world so that's why all these things are happening - it’s a plague ....I have news for us all we have destroyed this world and we're going to have to live in it until it self-destructs but not to worry we are trying to do that as soon as possible so we shouldn't have too long to wait ..how many of us panicked this summer when we saw Israelis shooting man, woman and child in Palestine like they were doing target practice? Did we feel the Lord was coming then ? They were people too .....why were they being killed unnecessarily ?What did they do to deserve that? Do u think they fear Ebola ?
People! Ebola has been around for a long while, thank u Cuba for leading from the front 200 doctors sent to the front line is no joke ....I do believe that Chikv was mishandled by the Jamaican authorities - what the PM did this week she should have done 2 months ago so that was a wakeup call for everybody and Ebola is not likely to be similarly mismanaged - I believe in Jamaica and Jamaicans - we are the best at whatever we decide to do and die from an Ebola epidemic in Jamaica ? No , we are not going to.

So this month is Breast Cancer month.....those of you who know me know I don't think breast cancer should be singled out, it should be just Cancer Month as all cancers are important and deadly but who am I? The powers that be say it's Breast Cancer month so we are all to dress in pink and raise money for the cause. Well first thing is I don't like anything pink second thing is I believe that you should self exam every month as that's how I found my two breast cancers and if you don't want to do it as some of us are scared - let your partner do it -I've felt enough pain in my life don't need to squeeze up my breast in a machine and people like me who have had other cancers don't need added radiation from mammogram machines but new stats say new machines are low on radiation so you have no excuse - always remember early detection saves lives.
Went to Kingston for a funeral this past Saturday and it got me to thinking about Chik v and Ebola - suppose some one like me who has fought cancer for 36 years dies from one of those viruses would all my strict living have been in vain?
I've deprived myself from my favourite foods all these years -right now I would love a bowl of rum and raisin ice cream before bed - that's not to be and no rum and cranberry for me oh how I miss white rum and cranberry but too much sugar so that's not to be either - so suppose I live this green life (remember I hate everything green but I now not only eat but drink it daily) and here comes one of these viruses for me should I have a juicy pork chop tomorrow in case ? Or should I continue stepping up my antioxidants so my immune system is ready for the fight hmmmmmm
I notice that when you are healthy you bounce back quicker no matter what hits you down so I'll get my papaya leaves ready and go and have my turmeric juice before bed or maybe tonight I should have sour sop leaf tea ......
Folks get you bodies ready and plant some Neem trees and start educating everyone to not throw garbage in gullies and drains as I'm sure you are noticing that our Government has no money to clean them and all of you that saying the Lord coming for his world I have news for you suppose he's not and you will have to live in the mess we've made?

These man-made viruses
I've started writing just in time for chikungunya - chik v ...... or as people like to call it chicken gunman, chicken gonorrhea, chicken gungu - many a name for it - much panic over it .
I guess because I live with cancer it doesn't scare me as the bottom line is that it's not a killer it's just very painful and the itching drives you out of your mind......thank God when you contract it the side effects are mostly short lived but if you get a bad dose it can keep reoccurring for a few years they say. I really don't know. I know I've stepped up my antioxidants as waiting on chik v to hit you is like me living with cancer and waiting on the other shoe to drop - you don't know when - you only know it's coming ......the virus has no known cure but just make sure you take plenty antioxidants to prevent you from succumbing to the worse of its side effects.
When are the powers that be going to do something about it ? When are we going to stop being so nasty ? Plastic bottles and scandal bags are killing the nation and since we are an island we can't truck our waste to another state and pretend it doesn't exist. Listening to people on the television talking about their experience with this new virus I realize just how illiterate our nation is. Although the experts say, and I do believe , this is a virus transmitted by mosquitoes - when mosquitoes bite you during the day most of us don't realize it - there are all sorts of ridiculous stories going around on how you contract it - People! Fenton Ferguson did not cause it. . My firm belief is that the origins of this virus, along with many others, is man-made - Brazil just released thousands of mosquitoes aimed at controlling dengue fever.....messing with Mother Nature never ends well yet we continue to do it, we never learn. Know that our future with all these man-made diseases that they can't control is going to make our life a living hell so clean up your community ......NOW

- So this brings us to Jamaica and it's management or more accurately mismanagement of solid waste. When do we intend to do something about it ? The place I lived before my present home had no garbage collection so everyday we would find the nearest skip to throw our garbage - most people find the nearest gully to throw their garbage so it's out of their eyesight but here comes the rain and the sea looks like this where I now live in MoBay.

Life as a Semi-Colon: And so there must come an end
Today on Twitter Emma Lewis @ Petchary posted this blog from Charley and nothing has come so close to home like this. It hit me like a ton of bricks as I realized the difference between me and Charley is that we chose 2 different paths,I'm so lucky my way worked for me because hers didn't for her. We both started with the bad boy colon cancer she got her few weeks to live diagnosis at the end of her fight, I got my two weeks to live diagnosis at the start .....Read and realize how short life can be.To those of us that will play the life game with cancer, remember that when you choose a treatment choose quality of life instead of quantity.Choose the way that will keep you out of hospital and able to enjoy whatever time you have left with your loved ones whether it be a day or a year. Here is the link to Charley's blog -

Prayer
There were so many things I wrote about in my mind while I was away from my blog and now I'm back I can't remember a thing LOL.
Today my thoughts are about how much I would have missed if I hadn't made it til now. I would have missed all these school challenge quizzes which happen to be my favourite television shows ....why? they give me hope for my country - the youngsters are just the best - when they get a right answer you can literally see their 'glad bag bust' their eyes light up and they struggle not to smile and they look over to their coaches to get approval. Some days I'm so tense watching them that I shudder to think what they are going through ....I just watched a repeat broadcast and the little boy from South Borough Primary burst out in tears when he realized time was running out and they were behind...of course among the high schools I would have missed is all of KC's wins -yes , I carry KC in everything quiz, track, football - fortis for life. My greatest joy now though is watching 'no name' schools doing better and better every year. I urge all my peeps to watch SCQ it will warm your heart .....watch it instead of the news and know that Jamaica does have a bright future we just all need to see it .
People ask me all the time what do I do to keep from getting depressed after getting yet another cancer diagnosis - they want to know how do I keep trucking on. Well in my case I never get depressed, I am just getting tired of the fight - feeling fed up .....it's not an easy road and I've had the diagnosis 5 times . The older I get, things that used to not hurt , hurt terribly now. My last biopsy my doctor couldn't believe I was crying as he is not used to that from me but it just hurt so much....as we walked to the lab he said ' Pat you're still crying' I said 'I am don't let it bother you' I cried from he stuck the first needle in me till I went to the cashier to pay for the test, the cashier summed it up best "Ah Mrs. Wright once again my prayers go with you". So what I do to get through it is always to have a prayer in my heart.
My favourite prayers are 'Thank you Father," and " Father help me " short and to the point.
So to all of you - keep a prayer in your heart and on your lips and choose life not depression.
My every morning prayer as I realize that I'm awake is The Prayer of Faith which says -
God is my help in every need
God does my every hunger feed;
God walks beside me, guides my way
through every moment of this day.
I now am wise, I now am true,
patient and kind and loving too.
All things I am, can do, and be
through Christ the Truth that is in me.
God is my health, I can't be sick
God is my strength unfailing quick
God is my all, I know no fear
since God and love and truth are here.
God is my wealth, I can't be poor.
God is my true abundant store.
His indwelling presence brings to me;
health, happiness and prosperity.
Thank you Reverend Sheila!

I'm back
To all of you who were worried that I had expired I'm still hanging in there I've just not felt to write although I've had a lot of thoughts running around my head so definitely lots to say.
In Nov 2012 after my last post I had the greatest 60th birthday party given to me by my close friends - it was sensational Peter Lloyd performed and my son, his ex wife and my grand daughter who all live abroad flew in to surprise me along with a lot of my long time friends from near and far so I was properly surprised.
One thing with being given two weeks to live 36 years ago is that you have lots of fun as people don't wait to appreciate you, they tell and show you daily. In turn I try to pay it forward as it makes me have a better quality of life
While I was away from my blog I had another run-in with cancer - a lump bubbled to the surface of my left breast so I found out that implants won't prevent lumps from showing up - if they are there they will appear and hopefully you will catch it in time - my Doctor knowing I'm not a chemo / radiation girl had a long talk with me and explained that since it had been sitting there for sometime , as obviously they missed a few cells when they took off my breasts in 2011 , he would advise me to have radiation .
Deep thoughts and plenty money later , I was graduating from radiation oncology with flying colours. As I sat there every week day for 5 weeks for my 15 min treatment , lots of thoughts went through my mind ......why do so many cancer patients have someone with them when coming for radiation if they are able to drive or walk ? Why do we get so worried about cancer? We don't go home and die when we hear we have hypertension or diabetes so why do we get depressed and die when we hear we have cancer? I feel better to be alone at such times as our family and friends don't deal with the thought of losing us too well and they all feel we are going to expire at a moment's notice so it's less depressing to be by myself until such time when I need the physical support .... Why do these places look so depressing ? We need positive reinforcement at these times so why can't we make these places pretty???? when people who have been diagnosed with cancer go to Doctors, and they tell us we must continue same way,we mustn't change a thing - that we can eat jerk pork and drink Pepsi
etc is it because they humour us as they feel we are going to die anyway so let us go out happy ? I think if we doing something and it hurts us shouldn't we change what we are doing and try and clean up our act or won't it come back? Anyway enough rambling for one Sunday morning it's great to be back!

Without vision and foresight we shall surely perish
I had a few things on my bucket list and although I've never loved travelling, the Panama Canal was on it so since I have a big birthday coming up off I went last week.
Well first of all the shock of seeing Panama for the first time was so great as I did not expect to see somewhere looking like Miami beach with all the newly built condos. Everywhere I looked there was new construction - just like Bermuda in the poor areas everyone had a dish on the roof . All areas are being refurbished rich and poor, business and residential. It was obvious investment was pouring in. Hyundai and Kia, the major presence on the road with Porsche and Audi the hi-end cars of choice.
I never once got a pop down feel of the country or did I feel scared at anytime day or night and the tour guides told you certain areas you need to be careful on entering just like anywhere in the world. Im sure they have their issues which i couldnt see in 3 days but trust me im going back to find out.
During the height of the tourist season they have 24 cruise ships per day we are glad to have 2 per week.
After viewing the canal (one of the reasons man feel they are God), I heard of the student riots and after much blood shed the USA, who had come in after the French and finished building the canal, finally turned it over to the Panamanians . I got to understand that Panama started booming around 10 years ago when they started getting the US$10 million per day that the canal brings in .
The point is though that here is a little country - 3.5million people- and the Govt. is putting the money into the country and not into their pockets. You can see vision and planning - free health services which includes every tourist landing there being given free medical insurance, free public school education , no income taxes - there is retail taxes of 7% on all purchases. There is recycling -everywhere you see the 3 bins, paper, glass, plastic. The downtown area is full so they are building huge parking lots in the sea and only foot traffic will be allowed there.
I received a pamphlet on arrival which on reading i found out that i was entitled to 30 days free health insurance as a tourist.....really?
JAMAICA WHEN ARE OUR YOUNG PEOPLE GOING TO RISE UP WITH VISION AND FORESIGHT AND TELL EACH RESPECTIVE GOVT ENUFF IS ENUFF!!!!!
And while we are at it have the roads to Bogue Heights been done yet so tourist can go and see where Mr Bolt and Mr Blake are from? Have we lined the streets with vendors selling roast yam yet to tell the people that's what they eat :) and have we organized tours to the training camps yet ? NO we are busy complaining that the athletes were given money and how they dressed when they went to receive same.We are busy chopping off heads and shooting and raping and those of us who are upset say we are scared and run off to America never thinking to make a mark in our own country.
THANKS TO YOUNG PEOPLE LIKE MARVIN HALL WHO IS MAKING A DIFFERENCE BY CONTRIBUTING HIS TIME AND TALENT TO MAKING OUR HOMELAND A BETTER PLACE TO LIVE IN.

Return to love
As a faithful watcher of OWN , I have been watching some old Oprah shows with Marianne Williamson and realized that what she has been preaching in her book RETURN TO LOVE would be amazing if each and every one of us tried to practice love. The older I get the easier it has been for me to practice love and I hope the energy we put out worldwide, especially with what's happening in the middle east, means that we all can return to love. I have found that in the middle of the chaos and turmoil if we can center ourselves and love - just love - it makes life so easy. It lessens the pain immediately and the stress goes.
I have always tried to be honest with myself and others and when I was younger I didn't know how to temper my honesty but now I do - so instead of earning enemies I get people who now understand what I'm trying to say so they listen. I have no road rage - I get where I'm going easily and find it unsettling to drive with anyone who constantly is cussing as they drive. I find my workplace a more peaceful place and my home life serene - try it, you might find that your whole being comes alive and your surroundings become tranquil as you return to love!
